DETROIT — The Belle Isle Conservancy, (BIC) held its inaugural State of the Conversancy, Wednesday evening. The first of its-kind virtual town hall meeting aimed to provide updates on the Conservancy’s work, and space for critical conversations.
The virtual event included a panel discussion with Michele Hodges, President & CEO of BIC, Shani Penn, BIC Community Chair for Community Engagement, and Andre Ash of Michigan Chronicle as moderator.
The Belle Isle Conservancy aims is to protect, preserve, restore and enhance the natural environment, historic structures and unique character of Belle Isle as a public park for the enjoyment of all – now and forever, according to the organization’s mission statement.
It also works in close partnership with the State of Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources, the City of Detroit, and island partners to bring additional resources to Belle Isle.
The State of the Conversancy, a one-hour virtual event, provided an informative and engagement session. The community is welcome to share it’s concerns and creative ideas for forward progress for Detroit’s Belle Isle park. The Belle Isle Conservancy plays an important role in being a voice to facilitate community feedback to decision makers who manage the 982-acre island park, located in the international waters of the Detroit River.
